Dear colleague,

The aim of the "Oral Mucosal Lesions Telediagnosis Service (OralMedNet)" is to assist physicians and dentists in the diagnosis of oral mucosal lesions. We know that oral mucosal lesions are numerous and often the diagnosis is not simple. Moreover, it is not easy to differentiate between benign, potentially malignant and malignant oral lesions. Therefore, we believe that this specialized aid will help to improve the diagnosis of oral cancer and potentially malignant oral disorders. This can significantly improve the quality of life of patients suffering from these pathologies.

To help you, you will first have to ask your patient's permission to perform the teleconsultation. Then you will have to register (button at the top of the page), if you have not already done so, and fill in the fields corresponding to the characteristics of your patient (age, sex, diseases, drugs taken...) and of the lesion observed. He/she will also have to attach an image that can be taken with the camera of his/her cell phone or with another camera. The application is a web application so you can fill in the fields using your cell phone, computer or tablet. The system does not collect personal data, so your patient cannot be identified, and the photos you attach should not allow your identification either.

The button offers contextualized information in various places in the application. This information is also available in the "Help" tab.

These images and data will be analyzed by specialists in Oral Medicine of the ORALMED Research Group, who are also professors of the Diploma of Specialization in Oral Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid. These specialists will contact you by email within 72 hours and will explain the possible diagnosis, the diagnostic tests to be performed and the treatment, if necessary. In addition, they will explain if it is necessary to refer the patient to a specialized care service.

The benefit of this teleconsultation service is to have a specialized diagnosis and treatment protocol for the patient with oral mucosal lesions. This teleconsultation service does not involve any risk for you or your patient. It will only entail the use of time to fill in the fields necessary for the diagnosis and attach the image/s associated with the case.

To help protect your and your patient's confidentiality, the requested data will not contain personally identifiable information. The data will be archived for further data analysis and may be used for teaching and research purposes by the UCM ORALMED research group.

Objectives

The main objective of this study is to implement a telediagnostic service of oral mucosal lesions for physicians and dentists through an asynchronous modality telematics application to assist in the specialized diagnosis of oral mucosal lesions.

We believe that this diagnostic aid will improve the care of patients with oral mucosal lesions and assist in the early diagnosis of oral cancer and potentially malignant oral disorders. This will result in an increased quality of life for these patients.
